Chairman's Message: Urgent Plea!
Dear Friend of Hawaii Christian Coalition:
We are continuing a strategy to bring together Hawaii's communities through organizing "good works" that exalt the name of our Lord Jesus. We need to continue the work! Please help us carry on our Pastors' Prayer Lunches, the publication of our popular state-wide Voter Guides every election year, improving our website, e-mail "action alerts" to keep the Christian community informed, voter education, and more Family Days. Your $25 yearly membership in the Hawaii Christian Coalition will help us to keep up our work. An additional gift of any amount would also be very appreciated.
The City's July 5 Family Day Celebration at Kapiolani Community Park, kicked off by the Hawaii Christian Coalition's Family Day "Kids' Parade" with over 80 units including bands, vehicles, and marching groups from the community, was a big success, with food booths, kids' activities, music, entertainers, and topped off by a concert, fireworks, and movie in the evening. The Honolulu Advertiser (July 6) had this to say about our Family Day Parade:
"A July Fourth weekend parade in Waikiki wouldn't seem like something that should have taken so long to catch on. Especially in a place that obviously loves a parade. But just about anyone old enough to remember insisted ... (sic) Family Day 'Kids' Parade' was a first.'I've waited 75 years for this,' said James Chong, who's a kid at heart at 79. 'They've never had this kind of Fourth of July parade in Waikiki for the community and for the children.' …"We won a great victory when the ACLU lost its lawsuit to force us to permit gay and lesbian groups in the Family Day Parade.
However, victory comes at a cost. Please make your check payable to Hawaii Christian Coalition and mail to Hawaii Christian Coalition, 1448 Hooli Cir., Pearl City, Hi 96782.Thanks in advance for any help you can give us. We also ask for your prayers.
Mahalo & God Bless,
Garret T. Hashimoto, Chairman
